S. Gregory Smith, M.D.

S. Gregory Smith, M.D. is recognized as an international leader in eye surgery, both in Delaware Valley and beyond.  In private practice for 23 years, he is Delaware's only Attending Surgeon at the famed Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Smith is fellowship trained in Cornea and Anterior Segment Surgery; which includes Refractive Surgery.  He has been performing Refractive Surgery for 21 years.

Dr. Smith is extensively involved in research, education and the advancement of visual health.  He has been and is a consultant to several Fortune 500 companies.  He has taught advanced surgical techniques in 21 countries.  He has published seventeen professional papers, authored an Ophthalmology texbook,  "Complications of Intraocular Lenses and Their Management", and a book on Refractive Surgery. 

He also holds over 20 patents, including an implant for the treatment of Glaucoma, surgical devices, and a pharmaceutical product.  He lectures nationally and internationally and has been honored with five awards from his peers, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Castroviejo Cornea Society and what is now known as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Offices for Dr. smith, doing business as Delaware Eye Surgeons, P.A., are located in Wilminton and Seaford, Delaware.  Dr. Smith continues to welcome new patients.

S. Gregory Smith, MD, received his Bachelor of Arts and Economics with distinction from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and his Doctorate of Medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Smith participated as a flexible intern at the Sacred Heart Medical Center before completing his ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota. Although his formal education has long since culminated, Dr. Smith remains dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the field of vision correction through continued research of visual health. Dr. Smith’s achievements have been awarded by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Castroviejo Cornea Society and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He holds a number of patents, including one on an implant designed for the treatment of Glaucoma.
